The 2008 Memorial Concert
Each fall, as close as possible to All Soul's Day, the choir honors and remembers departed friends and family by performing a memorial concert. With orchestral accompaniment, we present a major choral work that focuses on our Christian belief in a glorious afterlife with God and the comfort that He provides to those left behind. Last year's concert theme was Eternal Light and featured Morten Lauridsen's beautiful Lux Aeterna. This year the choir sang "Mozart Miniatures”; five smaller works (Te Deum, Inter Natos Mulierum, Misericordias Domini, Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, and Ave Verum Corpus), by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, each five to ten minutes in length featuring the choir, string orchestra and organ. In addition to the music, there was a scripture reading and psalm and Father Tony, pastor of Holy Trinity opened and closed the concert with short prayers for healing and comfort. The church was beautifully decorated for this concert with dozens of candles burning in memory of departed friends and family. We spend several weeks before the concert collecting the names of those loved ones so they can be printed in the program for the concert and acknowledged by all the participants. We invited everyone, parishioners or not, who have lost loved ones to participate in this service as part of the healing process. We had a wonderful turn out this year and were very pleased to see so many friends and neighbors. Becky Gomez arranged the reception in Trinity Hall afterwards which everyone enjoyed very much. Every one in the choir worked very hard to make this year's concert a success and we were glad to have a chance to celebrate. A recording is made of each year's Memorial Concert. CDs of the concerts are available on our recordings page. The 2008 concert CDs are now available!
