The 2009 Memorial Concert

November 8th, 2009 6:30 p.m.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church Sanctuary

Each fall, as close as possible to All Soul's Day, the choir honors and remembers departed friends and family by performing a memorial concert. With orchestral accompaniment, we present a major choral work that focuses on our Christian belief in a glorious afterlife with God and the comfort that He provides to those left behind. This year, we'll be singing a famous, beautiful and challenging piece, Mozart's Requiem Mass. We will be singing the same work at the massed choir event hosted by the Turtle Creek Chorale in October and decided to present a more intimate version as this year's meditation on everlasting life. In addition to the music, there will be, as always, a scripture reading and psalm and Father Tony, pastor of Holy Trinity, will open and close the concert with short prayers for healing and comfort. Last year the choir sang five smaller works (Te Deum, Inter Natos Mulierum, Misericordias Domini, Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, and Ave Verum Corpus) also by Mozart. The previous year's concert theme was Eternal Light and featured Morten Lauridsen's beautiful Lux Aeterna. We've also sung works by Schubert, Cherubini and Handel, just to name a few.

As part of the ceremony, we spend several weeks in the fall collecting the names of people you wish to remember to be published in the program. We light candles in honor of each person and offer our music and our prayers with them in mind.
